Grandma Wakely’s Ginger Snap Cookies


  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup or molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Optional: 1 tsp ground cloves


  • Cream together sugar and butter
  • Fold in corn syrup or molasses
  • Sift flour, ginger, and baking soda together
  • Mix together
  • Roll into teaspoon, then roll in sugar and flatten
  • Bake at 375ºF (or 350ºF) for 10 mins
  • When the cookies crack a bit, then they are done
